Doosan (now DN Solutions) has been selling turning centers in the US market for over 30 years and are well known for their precision and reliability. Along with a variety of more complex turning options, they offer two main lines of horizontal CNC lathes - the Doosan Puma and the Doosan Lynx. Both lines offer a variety of sizes and options. So how do you know which one is the right one for you?
The Doosan Lynx series offers a line-up of compact turning centers with high-speed spindles and includes models offering 6", 8" or 10" chucks, sub-spindle, milling, y-axis capabilities and a variety of other options. Although the Lynx series is not considered to be as robust as the Puma series, it provides high-precision machining in a compact design and is well-suited for small to medium size parts.
The Doosan Puma series is a line of high performance turning centers available in sizes ranging between the Puma 2100 and the Puma 5100 as well as a collection of larger capacity lathes including the Puma 700, 800 and 1000 series. These models have chucks ranging from 8" - 21" and can come with a variety of options including sub spindles, y-axes, live milling, and more. The Doosan Puma series also has a GT option that provides heavy duty, box guideway turning with best-in-class spindles. While the Lynx is ideal for small to medium size jobs, the more robust Doosan Puma is best for large jobs requiring multi-axis machining.
Both models have core Doosan characteristics including reliability, increased productivity, high-precision machining, and automation. While useful in a variety of industries, these qualities make Doosan machines particularly valuable in aerospace, automotive, and medical manufacturing. Ultimately, deciding between the Doosan Lynx and Doosan Puma comes down to your specific manufacturing needs.
