Meet Dan Purcell: Certified Equipment Appraiser

Questions & Answers with Dan Purcell

Troy: Congratulations on securing your USPAP appraiser certification! How do you see the value of this?

Dan: Thank you. On one level this certification helps expand my services professionally. On another level, the fact that we now have three Certified Equipment Appraisers on staff speaks to who we are as a team—that we are fully committed to aligning ourselves with the highest ethical standards that the Association of Machinery and Equipment Appraisers (AMEA) allows.

Troy: How long have you been in the machine buying/selling business?

Dan: I was introduced to machinery sales back in 2014. I had literally just passed my Real Estate exam and as I was leaving the exam center my phone rang. I picked up and it was you calling to offer me an opportunity to work with the team at Clark Machinery. Well, here I am 7 years later and I’ve never looked back. Heading up the Georgia satellite office has been a great experience.

Troy: Tell me a little bit about your background.

Dan: My dad was a chemical engineer and plant manager, so growing up naturally meant having discussions about processes and problem solving. He often said “find another way” and that saying has shaped who I am both personally and professionally. I went on to receive my BA at Southern Illinois University—"Go Salukis!” Since then, I’ve added skills from my time in thermoforming manufacturing, sales management, and operations. So, I’m celebrating 7 years at Clark Machinery and my wife, Stephanie, and I just celebrated our 13th wedding anniversary with our two boys – Daniel and Ryan.

Troy: What is the one thing you enjoy most about your job?

Dan: That’s an easy one - I enjoy serving my customers and my team. Whether it means finding a solution for the entrepreneur working out in his startup shop or for the CEO who has worked his way up from the assembly line, I want to be there. Being a part of the solution—of helping people achieve their goals to be successful—is absolutely as good as it gets!

Troy: What do you like most about the industry?

Dan: The industry’s resiliency and the people. I really enjoy the conversations and collaborating—developing relationships—truly working with the best people in the best industry.

Troy: How does being a member of the AMEA help you develop professionally?

Dan: The members of the AMEA have such a willingness and openness to share knowledge and encourage my development and success. There is such a wealth of knowledge, and the combined years of hands-on experience is off the charts!
